Mission Viejo Nadadores diver claims gold in FINA Junior World Championships

anna lemkin

Mission Viejo Nadadores diver Anna Lemkin is a world champion after winning gold Wednesday at the FINA Junior World Championships in Montreal, Canada.

Lemkin, 15, began the finals in second place but proved to be the most consistent diver with a final of 344.75, which bettered her prelims score by 21 points. At the end of the 14-15 girls 3-meter springboard competition, Lemkin stood atop the podium in her USA Diving warmups.

“We are so proud of Anna,” said Nadadores Head Coach John Appleman, who was also named Head Coach of the USA Diving world team. “She fought for that gold and was solid in a great contest. She’s a wonderful representative for both USA Diving and the Mission Viejo Nadadores.

The last Nadadores diver to win a Junior World title was Erica Sorgi in 1997. Along with taking home the gold medal on Wednesday, Lemkin won a bronze medal on the 10-meter platform earlier in the week.
