A heartfelt thanks to Kennel Quilts: comforting our shelter animals in times of need
In times of crisis, the smallest gestures often make the biggest difference. Mission Viejo Animal Services (MVAS) recently experienced this firsthand during the Airport Fire, when an outpouring of kindness arrived at our shelter in the form of beautifully handcrafted kennel quilts, each one stitched with care by the volunteers of Kennel Quilts.
Kennel Quilts was formed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy by The Quilt Pattern Magazine (TQPM), an international digital-only publication. In partnership with the Petfinder Foundation, this remarkable organization was created to provide comfort to animals in shelters affected by disasters. Quilters from all over the country contribute their time and talents creating small, cozy quilts designed specifically for animals in need. These quilts not only offer warmth and comfort but also serve as a symbol of compassion and support for the dedicated shelter staff and the animals in their care.
During the Airport Fire, MVAS received an incredible number of quilts, each accompanied by personalized notes of gratitude. These notes expressed heartfelt thanks for the work our team does – a reminder that we are not alone in our mission to protect and care for animals in need.
The Kennel Quilts volunteers have found a way to turn their passion for quilting into a meaningful, far-reaching effort that helps our animal friends in times of disaster. The quilts they provide bring comfort to the animals, making their time in the shelter a little easier. In turn, they lift the spirits of shelter staff, knowing that their efforts are supported by people who care.
On behalf of Mission Viejo Animal Services, we extend our deepest gratitude to the Kennel Quilts team and all the quilters who contributed during this time. Your thoughtful, handcrafted gifts have touched our hearts and, more importantly, provided comfort to the animals in our care. The quilts serve as a tangible reminder of the power of kindness and the collective effort it takes to care for animals in need.
