2024 Mission Viejo Employee of the Year is Sherry Merrifield

Sherry Merrifield, an Administrative Services Analyst, has been named Mission Viejo’s 2024 Employee of the Year.
Surrounded by colleagues and friends, Sherry received the annual award on Tuesday from Mayor Bob Ruesch.
With nearly 23 years of service to the City of Mission Viejo, Sherry is known for always going above and beyond the call of duty and for being proactive in assisting the City team.
As an Administrative Services Analyst, Sherry is responsible for understanding the purchasing requirements of the City including state and federal requirements and laws. She reviews contracts and analyzes all purchase order requisitions for compliance. Sherry vets potential vendors by searching records to determine they are in good standing with the City, County and State before approving them. She helps with the budget and other essential duties.
Sherry is known as a team player who will go out of her way to help other departments when short staffed. She consistently steps up to the plate to help and looks for ways to improve the flow of work and efficiency.
“Sherry is highly productive and able to manage her workload and still have time to assist others or take on special projects including training employees,” said Administrative Services Manager Susan Knudson, when nominating Sherry for the honor. “… she has helped so many people throughout her years here in Mission Viejo. She has technical and institutional knowledge going back to 2001.”
The City of Mission Viejo appreciates Sherry’s outstanding efforts and commitment to this community. She will be honored by the City Council on January 28.
