Airport Fire prompts reminder for Mission Viejo residents to know their evacuation zone

evacuation zones

In light of the Airport Fire, the City of Mission Viejo is reminding residents of the importance of knowing their evacuation zone. In the event of a wildfire or other disaster, emergency services officials may direct residents to evacuate and/or shelter-in-place.  Knowing your evacuation zone is critical to take potentially life-saving measures during a disaster.

The City of Mission Viejo is divided up into 25 evacuation zones. To find your evacuation zone, utilize the City’s Geographical Information System (GIS), which provides detailed information about properties. To find your evacuation zone on the GIS map:

  1. Open the GIS map by clicking https://missionviejo.geoviewer.io
  2. Select Evacuation Zone from the side menu
  3. Enter a street address or an Assessor’s Parcel Number (APN) in the search window to locate a particular property.

To stay informed about the Airport Fire, visit https://ocsheriff.gov/AirportFire or call the County’s Public Information Hotline phone number at 714-628-7085.

As the City has reported, Mission Viejo Animal Services has closed the reunification command post at the Ralph’s on Santa Margarita Parkway but will continue to respond to the Bell Tower Community Center in Rancho Santa Margarita if residents and their pets need assistance.

Be sure to follow the City on social media for news and information.

The evacuation zone didn't work. Program did not give me zone after I added address. Also map was too small to read.

No locations in Mission Viejo have been placed under voluntary evacuations due to the Airport Fire. The City does not announce ahead of time the location of evacuation assembly points due to the possibility of a pre-announced location being in harms-way, but in the event of an evacuation, the City coordinates with first responders to set up safe staging areas for people to congregate that will be (or have been) displaced by an emergency incident. These will be announced at the time of the evacuation on the various emergency communication outlets [AlertOC, Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA)] and other media platforms. You can register for the mass-notification system AlertOC through the following link, and this targeted notification system will alert you when there is an imminent threat to life safety with required actions including evacuation orders:

Internal testing on a variety of browsers and Operating Systems seems to be working, but the map may be more readable on a computer or a tablet, if possible. If you are experiencing difficulties with the GIS, please call the City at 949-470-3083 for assistance.
