City of Mission Viejo committees continue to make an impact on this community

Community of Character Mandarin immersion program

The Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee has expanded its efforts to reach more students and encourage them to embrace the City’s longtime program.

The City committee, which is comprised of adults and students (7th-12th grades), provides opportunities to promote good character in the City as well as offer experience in leadership and event planning for students. The program continues to expand – recently making an impact on the Mandarin Immersion Program at Newhart Middle School and Capistrano Valley High School with extra-curricular activities the students are embracing and involving members of the Mission Viejo Chamber of Commerce to offer lessons to youth about entrepreneurship and being involved in the community.

In addition to the Community of Character, other City committees continue to inspire and engage this City through volunteerism, great work, activities, programs and events.

The Mission Viejo Activities Committee is made up of Mission Viejo residents and business owners who work together to make the community a better place to live, work and play. The committee is a nonprofit, volunteer, civic organization that promotes and carries out community service activities for the benefit of the citizens of Mission Viejo.

Since the 2006 adoption of the Headquarters Battalion of the 1st Marine Division, members of Mission Viejo Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee have been dedicated to providing year-round support for our troops and their family members through numerous outstanding efforts and programs.

The Cultural Arts Committee was established by the City Council in 1992 to promote and foster knowledge, enjoyment and appreciation of the performing, literary and visual arts through community interaction with the arts to strengthen the quality of life in Mission Viejo.

Also formed in 1992, the Heritage Committee is comprised of local residents who meet monthly and volunteer to help the City preserve its rich history. The Heritage Committee researches historical sites and makes recommendations for monuments or markers and plans programs and activities to share historical information with the public.

The purpose of the Senior Leadership Committee is to provide information and recommendations to the Community Services Commission relating to services that impact the welfare of our senior citizens as well as promote programs and services for seniors.
