Council receives updates on new business developments, grant funding

The City Council on Tuesday received a report about new commercial development proposals as well as an update on State and federal grants to help fund some City projects.
The report included commercial development projects newly approved by the Planning and Transportation Commission and new businesses that have recently opened in Mission Viejo.
The Council also learned about staff’s proactive efforts in applying and securing state and federal grants for important projects, along with status updates on those projects and funding.
Staff also provided a detailed presentation about new activities, classes, camps and exciting creativity on exhibit at the Potocki Center for the Arts. The facility is located at 27301 La Paz Road.
In the first presentation of the meeting, the Council proclaimed March as Red Cross Month. The City of Mission Viejo has long partnered with the Red Cross to host blood drives and other efforts and greatly appreciates the contributions of local Red Cross volunteers who give hope and assistance to the most vulnerable in their darkest hours.
The City Council meets at 6 pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.

Thank you for the comment…
Thank you for your comment and interest regarding the City’s efforts related to affordable housing. The City’s adopted and State HCD-certified Housing Element update for the 2021-2029 planning period is available on the City’s dedicated Housing Element webpage at: https://www.cityofmissionviejo.org/departments/housing-element. The Housing Element includes an inventory of sites (https://www.cityofmissionviejo.org/sites/default/files/Appendix_C_10-20…) located throughout the City and identified as most suitable to accommodate the City’s Regional Housing Need Allocation (RHNA), including units affordable to moderate, low, and very-low income households. All the sites in the Housing Element sites inventory have been rezoned to permit high-density residential development. As part of the City’s Housing Element implementation program, the City recently adopted an inclusionary housing ordinance, requiring new residential development projects to include a minimum 15% of the total units as affordable housing units. The City is currently processing development applications for two Housing Element sites, and both applications include affordable housing units. City staff members regularly interact with property owners and developers regarding opportunities for residential development, including affordable housing. For any questions, please contact the City’s Community Development Department at 949-470-3053 or cd@cityofmissionviejo.org.
I am still waiting to hear…
I am still waiting to hear when the city is going to share its outreach on affordable housing projects. You seem to have money for all sorts of gimmicky building projects but not to do outreach for the underserved in your city . With the number of empty businesses there are a lot of sites to choose from. Do something to show you care about constituents who are struggling.
