Council will consider an additional safety measure at busy intersection, other business May 13

The City Council on Tuesday, May 13 will consider awarding a contract for an additional safety measure at a busy intersection as well as discuss a plan for the next budget cycle.
The business portion of the meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.
Council Members will consider a High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) Traffic Signal Installation and Intersection Improvements project to create a pedestrian crosswalk across Olympiad and connect Youth Athletic Park and Lake Mission Viejo. A HAWK is a traffic control device that helps pedestrians cross busy streets safely, particularly at mid-block locations where traditional traffic signals might not be justified. HAWK signals are activated by pedestrians, and they use a unique sequence of lights to alert drivers about the presence of pedestrians.
Part of the City’s process for developing the FY 2025-27 City budget, the Council will consider the establishment of General Fund target and minimum reserve levels for the next budget cycle. A General Fund target refers to the desired level of unrestricted fund balance in a government's General Fund, typically expressed as a percentage of operating revenues or expenditures. A minimum reserve level is a threshold below which the fund balance should not fall, providing a cushion against unexpected events or temporary revenue shortfalls.
The Council will also recognize the City’s Community of Character Committee for receiving a 2024 Promising Practices Award, the only California organization to receive such an honor.
City Council meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
