Free Art Experiences for veterans and their families in October

The Potocki Center for the Arts will host two programs of creative fun and discovery for veterans and their families.

"It's All in a Name" - Radial Design and Symmetry - will allow families to make a kaleidoscope design using the letters of their names on Saturday, October 5 from 10 am to 12:30 pm.  Patrons will use a light box, folded paper, pen and colored pencils to create a beautiful and colorful drawing.  No art experience is necessary. Led by professional artists and teachers, this project is fun for all ages.

More fun is on tap Tuesday, October 15 from 6:30-9 pm with artist Fernando Del Rosario leading a "Real Hero" experience. Patrons will create a canvas design using repurposed comic magazines and collage. Fernando has long found inspiration for real-life superheroes who are enthusiastic, courageous and honest.

"Fernando's inspiration from superheroes is shared with our veterans and their service to our country," said Cultural Services Supervisor Dru Maurer.  "This is our way to say thank you to our servicemen and their families."

Seating is limited for these programs, which are funded by the "Veterans Connect at the Library" grant through the Mission Viejo Library. Register for your preferred class by calling 949-830-7100, ext. 5105.

The Potocki Center is located at 27301 La Paz Road.
