Take precautions to stay safe during severe windstorm, high-fire danger

With a severe Santa Ana windstorm continuing throughout Southern California, the City is urging residents to take precautions and sign up for AlertOC, a mass notification system designed to keep the public informed of emergencies.
During these high wind periods and Red Flag warnings, residents should reduce any activities that can produce sparks. Learn more and view OC Fire Watch sites at https://bit.ly/FirewatchSites.
California utilities warn that gusts can cause power lines to fall. Even if a power line has fallen, it can still carry an electric charge, and people are advised to stay away.
What to do during strong wind gusts

- Watch out for flying debris
- Avoid traveling in high-profile vehicles
- Stay away from downed power lines

- Use caution with anything that can ignite a fire
- Pack bags in case evacuations are ordered
- Stay up to date with evacuation orders and warnings

- Have access to a first-aid kit and other necessary prescription medications
- Have extra bottled water
- Get a portable generator, place it in a safe area to use
- Have extra flashlights and batteries
