City to host two special events on Patriot Day
The City of Mission Viejo and American Soldier Network will host a simple flag-holding and candlelight gathering to honor the people who lost their lives and the heroes who responded to the catastrophic events of 9/11.
The event is from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, September 11 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way. In reflecting on that horrific day, folks will have the chance to jot down memories and heartfelt messages and tie them on the white fence in The Kershaw Garden at 200 Civic Center starting the first week of September.
Since many people continue to struggle after tragic events like 9-11, military combat and losing a loved one, experts in the field of suicide prevention from the American Soldier Network will be on hand following the ceremony to discuss the suicide epidemic and ways to help people in need. The nonprofit American Soldier Network raises awareness and funding to tackle the psychological and emotional battles affecting veterans such as PTS, homelessness, unemployment and suicide.
