Volunteer Opportunities

Animal Services

Since 1992, Mission Viejo Animal Services Center has provided thousands of animals in our community with the best care and treatment. We are a pro-humane facility that cares for homeless animals until they can be reunited with their owner or placed in a new permanent home.

None of this could be accomplished without our compassionate and dedicated volunteers. Volunteers work side by side with our staff caring for our animals and helping with education and outreach to the community.

We can always use more help! How great would it feel to help a family find its perfect match? Or, work a special event that raised funds for the pets in our care? There are so many ways you can help as a volunteer from getting down and dirty with the pets, greeting visitors, helping keep the shelter in top shape, assisting with clerical tasks in our office or through community engagement. We appreciate every hour!

Community Relations

The Department offers residents with a photography background the opportunity to tap their creative side by volunteering to photograph City events or projects. Other volunteers can help with the assembly of large-format graphic materials that comprise the unique decor of Mission Viejo's signature events.

Cultural Services

The Cultural Service Department is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help with a variety of tasks at the Potocki Center for the Arts and at events throughout the year. Our volunteers have a passion for the arts and help bring creative programming to our community!

Library

Our volunteers are amazingly generous with their time! In the last year volunteers gave 19,133 hours of time and $462,636 worth of cost savings. Volunteers are a key component of our team that makes it possible for library services to be delivered at high quality standards.

Police Services

The Senior Corps Of Retirees is comprised of a group of dedicated volunteer senior citizens working in conjunction with the Orange County Sheriff's Department, which handles the law enforcement services for the City. The volunteer program was developed and approved in 1989 by the Mission Viejo City Council. This volunteer group performs a number of duties for the City, which allows the Sheriff's Deputies to devote the bulk of their activities to law enforcement.  Additionally, Police Services offers the Trail Ambassador Program. In this role, volunteers patrol the trails in Mission Viejo on e-bikes and promote trail rules and safe bike riding.

Public Services

Students and residents wishing to complete community service hours for school or youth programs may contact the Public Services Departments for volunteer opportunities that benefit our community. Projects may include trash pick-up in our parks, trails and community centers, plant material installation, painting and event set-up.

Recreation & Community Services

Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community, directly help those in need, and make life in Mission Viejo better! The Recreation & Community Services Department offers a variety of program and event volunteer opportunities such as Oso Fit 5K, Adaptive Tennis and other sports, and the Senior Leadership Committee. Experience your community, give back, and have fun by volunteering!

Pacific Symphony

Each summer the City hosts the Pacific Symphony.  If you are interested in volunteering for this event, email symphonyvolunteer@cityofmissionviejo.org.
