Request for Animal Relinquishment

Serving the cities of Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills and Rancho Santa Margarita.

It is our goal to assist animal owners in rehoming dogs and cats into new, permanent homes or to refer residents to local veterinarians or animal rescue organizations. Owner relinquishments are accepted by application only. Applications are available at our front counter or by completing the request form below. Generally, we only accept applications from residents within our service cities; however, when space allows, we may accept requests from outside our service areas.

In order for your request to be complete, we require a photo ID with proof of residency and a photo of the pet you wish to relinquish. Online requests are reviewed by management, and staff will contact applicants for follow-up. If approved, the dog or cat must pass a temperament evaluation and health assessment prior to acceptance into the program.

To help expedite your application, please email a copy of your ID or driver’s license along with a photo of your pet to surrenders@cityofmissionviejo.org. Your request will be considered incomplete and will not be processed until these items are received.
