Crime Mapping Program

The Orange County Sheriff's Department and Mission Viejo Police Services no longer utilize the Sheriff's Blotter, and have transitioned to Crime Mapping. Residents in Orange County Sheriff's Department contract cities and unincorporated areas will be able to better track public safety issues in their neighborhoods with a recently launched software program that allows them to monitor and analyze criminal activity in their area. Click the link for crimemapping.com. You can search by address directly, and use search filters such as date, radius, and crime type.

Crime Mapping is an overview of designated crimes within a particular law enforcement agency. The content on Crime Mapping is a representation of crime and is not all-inclusive. Each agency has the choice to customize their content from the crime types and crime codes they have displayed on Crime Mapping.

Each incident has to be entered as a report or call for service by the law enforcement agency before it can be uploaded to Crime Mapping. For some incidents, it may take some time for this process to be completed, so it would not immediately appear on Crime Mapping. Some crimes and incidents may not appear on Crime Mapping because they were not reported to the Orange County Sheriff's Department or were responded to by another agency that does not subscribe to Crime Mapping.

Some agencies also request that Crime Mapping does not display sensitive crimes such as sexual assault or crimes involving children in order to protect the privacy of the victims. As a result, that information may not be available for your area. Other miscellaneous crimes that do not fall into any discernible category can also be filtered out at the agency's request.
