Mission Viejo: where Home is a Home Town Again
Part of fulfilling the promise in any community is the development of community spirit: a sense of togetherness. The aim of the Mission Viejo Company was to create a sense of belonging by bringing folks together The Company jump-started that process by providing that extra something that makes a town, a hometown, and this, in turn, prompted Mission Viejo residents to talk to their friends and relatives about moving to Mission Viejo.
This sense of community was fostered by the Mission Viejo Company through the following: (1) giving every new homeowner, at the close of escrow, a welcome packet and the chain of title going all the way back to the King of Spain; (2) mailing the monthly Mission Viejo Reporter to every household; (3) creating the homeowner’s association and subsidizing the Mission Viejo Activities Committee and the Mission Viejo Beautiful Committee; (4) sponsoring several community-wide events each year, such as the St. Patrick’s Day parade, Bunny Days, the 1000-foot banana split, the 4th of July picnic, and the Six Nights of Christmas; and (5) distributing the Beautiful Mission Viejo license plate frames.
